How To meditate
The Mind
To understand why meditation is important we need to have a better understanding of the mind itself. Our brain is a muscle and using it is how we work it out. Creating that connection between our thoughts, self and mind is a great way to keep our brain in shape!
Conscious Mind:
This is the part of our mind we are “aware” of
Our thoughts, feelings and memories can be accessed through this part of our mind
It is limited in capacity
Awareness of “yourself” here
Your “ego” lives here
Preconscious Mind:
This is where thoughts that we don’t use all the time exist. They are easily accessable, think facts, phone numbers, birthdays, passwords.
Can still influence our conscious mind through dreams (freudian slips)
Subconscious Mind:
This is where the important stuff we are looking to shift and heal lies. This part of our mind operates below conscious awareness. It influences our thoughts, emotions, patterns and behaviour without direct control. Our subconscious mind also filters information and decides what to store and what to consciously think about.
Our basic everyday tasks, breathing, blinking, forming habits
Patterns, belief systems, and decision making is all influenced by what we store here
This is where we have to go to reprogram our default responses and patterns
Memories, values and beliefs live here
